Philippe Borer
studierte Violine bei Max Rostal (Meisterklasse Violine und Bratsche am Konservatorium Bern), Ruggiero Ricci und Jan Sedivka. Er setzte seine Musikstudien in Australien fort (Master of Music 1988) und promovierte in Philosophie 1995. Seine Publikationen beinhalten: "The Twenty-Four Caprices of Niccolò Paganini, their significance for the history of violin playing and the music of the Romantic era" (Michel Scherrer Verlag 1997). Seine Forschungen auf dem Gebiet der Pädagogik und Instrumentalengeschichte, sowie seine Beiträge zur Paganini-Forschung sind in verschiedenen Musikzeitschriften veröffentlicht worden (Revue Musicale de Suisse Romande, Quaderni dell'Istituto di Studi Paganiniani, Nuova Rivista Musicale Italiana, The Strad Magazine, AudioMagazine) Derzeit ist er Professor für Violine an der Société Suisse de Pédagogie Musicale.

Philippe Borer spielt den BACH.Bogen seit 1998 und sein Repertoire polyphonischer Werke für Violine und Viola umfaßt Kompositionen von Marini, Westhoff, Bach, Paganini, Baillot, Heinrich, Soldan and Bach Bachtischa.

Publications include: "The Twenty-Four Caprices of Niccolò Paganini, their significance for the history of violin playing and the music of the Romantic era" (Michel Scherrer Verlag, 1997). In the field of Paganinian research he has contributed articles to the Quaderni dell'Istituto di Studi Paganiniani, the Nuova Rivista Musicale Italiana, the Revue Musicale de Suisse romande , AudioMagazine and The Strad Magazine. Presently, professor of violin and viola at the Société Suisse de Pédagogie Musicale.

Philippe Borer plays the BACH.Bogen since 1998 and his repertoire of polyphonic violin music includes works by Marini, Westhoff, Bach, Paganini, Baillot, Heinrich, Soldan and Bach Bachtischa.

E' nato a Neuchâtel (Svizzera). Ha studiato violino sotto la guida di Max Rostal, Ruggiero Ricci e Jan Sedivka. In Australia ha condotto una ricerca specifica sulle Scuole di violino ("Aspects of European Influences on Violin Playing and Teaching in Australia", MMus diss., 1988). Ha conseguito il dottorato in filosofia nel 1995. Ha pubblicato l'opera "The Twenty-Four Caprices of Niccolò Paganini, their significance for the history of violin playing and the music of the Romantic era" edito nel 1997 a Zurigo da Michel Scherrer Verlag. Altri suoi saggi e articoli possono essere trovati nei Quaderni dell'Istituto di Studi Paganiniani, nella Nuova Rivista Musicale Italiana, nella Revue Musicale de Suisse romande e nella rivista The Strad. Attualmente insegna violino e viola presso la Société Suisse de Pédagogie Musicale.

Philippe Borer suona coll'arco curvo dal 1998. Nel 2001 eseguì la Ciaccona di Bach all'Istituto di Storia dell'Arte di Pietroburgo con un arco curvo ideato da Michael Bach (BACH.Bogen). Il suo repertorio di musiche polifoniche per violino e viola comprende opere di Marini, Westhoff, Bach, Paganini, Baillot, Heinrich, Soldan e Bach Bachtischa.
